On my way home from work, I noticed a new cafe a few blocks from my apartment. I went in and was blown away by how cute it is and wondered how I hadn’t noticed it before. Turns out, they opened on September 1st which is why I am only noticing it now.
It’s called Magpie and is an artisan pie boutique in Philadelphia. I then realized that there are hardly any dessert shops that only sell pie. Cupcakes and fro yo are all the rage, but pie is often left out of the loop. Magpie sells slices, but also takes orders for entire pies. I guess I know where I’m getting my next birthday…pie. I had a slice of the Chocolate Cinnamon Coffee Pecan pie and was blown away. I now have to try each pie on their menu.
Not only do they have sweet pies, but they have savory pies too. What’s better than pie in the colder months? Nothing!
I’m so excited to have this pie boutique mere blocks from my apartment.
I really wish I liked cooking. It would make my life so much easier. I find myself putting off making dinner in hopes of an unexpected invite out (I’m not talking anywhere fancy, I could always go for some pizza) or an invite to someone’s (ahem, my boyfriend’s) house for dinner.
I can cook the basics. Canned soup, Kraft Mac and Cheese… just kidding.
But really, I can cook pasta, chicken, your typical vegetables… but beyond that, I’m useless. Every New Year’s Eve, I vow “this year I will learn how to cook!” and it never happens.
Occasionally, I’ll try something new. I made shrimp tacos about a month ago, and they were FINE, but just FINE. Nothing I ever make is great. Plus, they took me forever to make because I was so worried about messing up the recipe!
Basically, what I’m doing here is vowing to the blogosphere that I will learn how to cook. I’m going to cook simple dishes for dinner and blog about them. So, hold me to it. Please.
And, I’ll start with these recipes…
Buffalo Ranch Chicken Pasta
Stacked Roasted Vegetable Enchiladas
BBQ Chicken Sandwiches
Welcome to Life on High Street!
Fashion, beauty, decorating, food and city life are all things that make me happy, so I decided to create a blog to encompass all of those things. With the end of summer quickly approaching, I figured it was a good time to start a blog to welcome the new season. The name “High Street” comes from my semester abroad in London. “High Street” refers to a type of fairly affordable clothing store in London, like Top Shop, Zara and H&M. I lived steps away from High Street Kensington in London which was full of shops of all sorts.
My blog will entail posts about fashion, beauty, decorating, food and city life in Philadelphia.
